LSU at Ole Miss

Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Oxford, Mississippi

Number 1 in the Top 25 AP list, Louisiana State University’s Fighting Tigers (9-0) are travelling to University Mississippi Ole Miss Rebels (4-6).  LSU are so far unbeaten this season, and are coming on the back of a tough, yet impressive win at number 4 University of Alabama (46-41) on Saturday.  Ole Miss won last week against New Mexico State (41-3) and broke a 3-game losing streak.

Beating Alabama last week puts the Tigers as favorites to win the National Championships, this being their fifth win for the season over a top-ten rival.  LSU and have three games still to play in the regular season.  “We are going to continue to rise…and bring a championship back to Louisiana.” said Tigers Coach Ed Orgeron after the win over Alabama.  So Quarterback Joe Burrow and crew will need to keep the team in high gear to avoid upsets for the rest of the season.

QB Burrow completed 31 of 39 attempts for 393 yards against the Crimson Tide, and Junior Running Back Clyde Edwards-Helaire ran 103 yards for three touchdowns, as well as 77 yards for nine receptions.  LSU scores 46.7 points per game, with a defense that allows 22.3 points per game.  Burrow has a 78% completion, and covered 3,198 yards for 33 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

Although Ole Miss crushed New Mexico State last week and snapped a losing streak, the real challenge is coming to Mississippi this Saturday.  Rebels Freshmen Quarterback John Rhys Plumlee broke the rushing record as freshmen at Ole Miss with 777 yards, and 666 yards in the air for a total of 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.  He has a completion rate of 60%.

So probably the strongest point for the Rebels is their defense, allowing 23.9 points per game, which isn’t too far of LSU’s 22.3.  “LSU is a great team and you have to do the small things right,” said Rebels Defensive Linemen Benito Jones to the press. “[We] just have to go out and play as hard as we can”.

Final Score: LSU to win 38-17 and not cover the spread

Spread: LSY -21 (70%) / Steelers +21 (30%)

O/U: 62.5 Over (58%) / Under (42%)
