Number 20 Navy Midshipman (7-1) are travelling to Indiana to face number 16 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-2). Both teams are coming off the back of winning streaks. The Navy is on a 5-game winning roll, last beating 56-10 the Connecticut Huskies on the road. Notre Dame are coming off 2 wins, beating Duke 38-7 on Sunday.
Notre Dame’s Quarterback Ian Book handed the Navy last season 330 passing yards and two touchdowns. He’s coming on the back of a record performance against Duke, and became the first QB in Notre Dame’s history to throw four touchdowns and rush 100 yards in a single game. Fighting Irish Wide Receiver Chase Claypool is coming off the back of five games with at least five catches, and now stands on 42 receptions and five touchdowns this season.
The Fighting Irish are on a tough schedule this season, and will have faced three of the ranked teams in a five-game length. This will be the 93rd meeting between the two teams, and the first time since 1978 that both schools are ranked in the Top 25. Notre Dame won seven of the last eight games against the Midshipmen, including a 44-22 landslide last season. The team’s defensive line looks strong in the past weeks, although they did lose senior Defensive End Julian Okwara due to injury. Fighting Irish defense allows on average 19.2 points per game.
Navy Quarterback Malcolm Perry ran for 2 touchdowns and rushed over 100 yards for five games straight. Sophomore Full Back Jamale Carothers is a crucial part of the Navy’s offense, with an average of 10 yards per carry and nine touchdowns scored (eight in running) in the last four games. The Midshipman defense allows an average of 18.2 points per game and ranked 13th in the nation in total yards allowed (310.6).
